Eat for Free at Outback

The Outback Gift Card scam
Beware of the Eat for Free at Outback free dinner coupons scam which you may see posted on your wall or shared by your friends. These messages about free $250 outback certificates can get you excited.

Unfortunately, these are merely a ploy to get you to participate in survey scams. Here are some of the messages that you may see being circulated in the social network:*

They make the best steaks
Eat for free at outback! Only 359 dinner coupons remaining! Hurry up!
eatatoutback.net
Take advantage of this special outback steakhouse offer! Receive two free dinner vouchers today! Act quickly before the supply runs out. With only a few coupons left, they'll go fast!
outbackisbest.com

What It Is

The free $250 outback steakhouse gift card scam is just a renamed version of older facebook survey scams that include the likes of the free Southwest Airline Tickets and $250 Olive Garden Gift Card bogus give aways. Scammers make use of bogus freebies to lure people to participate in survey scams or provide their personal information such as email and contact number.

Free $250 outback steakhouse gift card? Sorry, no free $250 outback gift card even if you complete surveys and offers on Facebook

This particular hoax offer says that there are only a limited number of coupons and free 250 outback gift cards for give away. It also gives the impression that, to claim your free outback coupon, you need to share the page on your facebook wall and add a comment. Unfortunately, doing so will only lead you to a program requirements page where you will be asked to complete surveys or sponsor offers.

By luring you to answer surveys and complete offers, people behind this scam earn money through you. Do not click and share this message because the free coupon trap is merely a ploy to get you to answer surveys. You will not receive a free coupon for completing offers and answering surveys.

How to Remove Facecons

Facebook has undoubtedly become the most successful and most popular social networking site to date. Unfortunately and despite its success, there are several features and applications that people want but Facebook has either failed to offer or intended not to provide. These include features that allow users to know who viewed their profile (remember Friendster?), dislike buttons and smileys/ emojis or emoticons.*

This is where third party applications come in. Developers provide tools that allow people to use features that are not readily available on Facebook. This is also the reason why people who want to use emoticons download the facecon program. Facecons is a toolbar/ browser add on used for adding emoticons on social networking sites such as Facebook. You can use facecons, for example, to add emoticons to your chat.

Third party applications such as Facecons and Facemoods are being used by Facebook users so they can use the popular emoticons or smileys when chatting on Facebook.

If you are not satisfied with facecons however or you are not comfortable using facecon when chatting on facebook because you are spamming your friends with the " [facecons] i'm using thefacecons.info/fb/ to send cool emoticons" message, you may want to consider to uninstall facecons.

Follow the guide below on how to remove facecons

1. Go to "Control Panel"

2. Click on the add remove programs or Uninstall a program on windows 7

3. Find Facecons on the list of installed progarms

4.Double click on facecons and click on the remove button.

How to Remove Etype Chat Spam

Etype is an application that auto corrects spellings and acts as a dictionary or thesaurus. It auto corrects or suggests words that you are about to type. This program would have been great if it does not spam your facebook friends with links on the chatbox. Etype is a good software employing bad schemes to make a name for itself.

Etype is displayed in your chatbox as:

Download http://etype1.com/f.php?FrGWiA here

If you click on the link, you will be taken to a download site and if you download and install it, your antivirus software will post an alert for potentially malicious software. This generally happens if your antivirus software is up to date.

After installation, etype will still pester you by posting pop ups and would even make you share etype on facebook in order to get a free upgrade.

Here is what the pop up image looks like

To uninstall etype do the following steps:

1. Go to control panel and click on uninstall programs

2. look for the etype program and click uninstall

3. Restart the your computer

If the etype program does not show on your list do the following:

1. Go to C:Users(user name)AppDataRoamingeTypeeTypeUninstall.exe

2. It will guide you through the uninstall process.

3. Restart your PC.

Free Ipads in Memory of Steve Jobs

Apple Ipad Giveaway & Steve Jobs
Immediately after the announcement of his passing, people behind survey and phishing scams released deceitful messages about an ipad giveaway in memory of Steve Jobs.

The tech world mourns over Steve Jobs' death after the legendary Apple icon passed away on October 5. Scammers, however, particularly those behind Facebook survey scams did not let this pass. Free ipads in Memory of Steve Jobs immediately spread. This was followed by similar email spam messages and other different scams that bank on "the memory of Steve Jobs".

Bogus offers circulating on Facebook this week include the ones that say Apple is giving away Macbooks in honor of Steve Jobs and those that promise to give away ipads and ipods in memory of the Apple co-founder and CEO: *

Below are just some variations of the misleading messages circulating on the social network:

In Memory of Steve Jobs, Apple has decided to give
away 1000 Limited Edition iPad 2's
ipads4everyone.com
http://bit.ly/restinpeace-steve-jobs

In memory of steve jobs, apple has decided to give away 1000 limited edition ipads

To celebrate the life of their founder, Apple have decided to
give away 1000 Limited Edition iPad's to honour Steve, who
passed away yesterday.

R.I.P Steve Jobs
In memory of Steve, A company is giving out 50 ipads tonight. R.I.P. Steve Jobs http://bit.ly/restinpeace-steve-jobs.

What NOT to Do

Do not click on any link that comes along with these Facebook ipad giveaway hoax  messages as this only takes you to a page where you will either be bombarded with ads or answer surveys. This is not the first time that Apple products have been promised to be given away on Facebook. The Fedex and ipad give away, for example, proved to be another example of bogus offers on Facebook.

Is Apple giving away free ipads? This is not the first time that ipads, iphones and other popular Apple products are being used to lure people to participate in survey scams or give out their personal information. Such official promotions will likely be announced on the company's official website and not through any third party social networks and other websites. So no, there will be no free ipad in memory of Steve Jobs.

With Apple's strong fan base and millions of users of the iphone, ipad, macbook and ipod mourning the loss of Apple's iconic CEO and co founder, more facebook scams taking advantage of Steve Jobs death is not far out. Make sure that you do not fall to this misleading scams. Those who do are at risk of falling to phishing scams (where scammers get your personal information that they can use later on) or waste time answering surveys that reward them nothing.

What to Do when You Receive or See "in memory of Steve Jobs ipad giveaway" on Facebook

1. Report the apple ipad giveaway scam message as spam. To do this, click the pull down arrow image beside the post and select "report story or spam".

2. Share this post on Facebook to warn your friends that this message is just another give-away scam.
